If you’ve googled “how to enter the Metaverse”, know that you’ve already made a mistake by default. How you enter the Metaverse is the wrong way of putting it, because the Metaverse is not just one. Several virtual worlds can be accessed and not just that of Meta.
For this reason, I have decided to create a mini-guide on how to access one of the many Metaversies that are around, and given that as a good resolution for 2022 I have decided to educate enough Nigerians about Cryptocurrencies and other surrounding projects, prompting me to focus on how to access one of the most famous Metaverses of the moment; Decentraland.
Metaverse is the New Black
Some time ago, Facebook announced that it will change the name of its parent company to Meta Platforms Inc. (Meta) during its annual Connect conference. This comes as no surprise to anyone who has been keeping an eye on the brand’s latest hardware innovations.
In 2014 when Zuck acquired Oculus rift, we should have already understood something, Meta’s goal is to go beyond the software and integrate it into a hardware system that allows us to access the Metaverse. The democratization of VR viewers will allow us to bring the Metaverse into the home of all of us. And while the apps of Instagram, Whatsapp, and Facebook will remain more or less like this, we will have a new Universe to discover thanks to virtual reality.
And the pandemic has sped up this process tremendously. And if the developers do a good job at Meta, this “Metaverse” could open the door to new work, social, and play possibilities that will impact your daily life. You just need to convince those 4 billion subscribers.
What is the Metaverse?
The Metaverse is best summed up as an online digital social space where people can meet, work and play collaboratively on a variety of devices. A key part of the experience is creating a digital avatar of yourself to help ground your presence in this next evolution of web interaction. Users can “enter” a virtual environment made up of interconnected worlds.
If you are inside the Metaverse using a VR headset such as Oculus Quest 2, you can communicate with others from a virtual environment of your choice represented by your digital avatars. Whether you’re in a casual chat with a friend or a business meeting, you can talk to people in the real world via their phone or webcam, while being hosted on a virtual screen in front of you.
When does the Metaverse come out?
If we talk about the Metaverse developed by Meta “Horizon Worlds”, the release should be made official soon. But tons of other Meta-verses can be accessed. For example, The Sandbox, or the more famous Decentraland (which we will see today) not to mention the pioneer Robolox … And all the virtual worlds that will be built by brands, government administrations, enthusiasts, etc.
What is Decentraland?
Founded in 2015 by Ari Meilich and Esteban Ordano and launched in 2017, Decentraland is an Ethereum-powered Metaverse and its native ERC-20 token known as MANA allows users to purchase plots of “land” (virtual land), rent or monetize them. opening virtual businesses.
Decentraland is also governed by a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) which allows token holders to vote on policies within the metaverse.
The platform has grown at a blazing pace and currently has a market capitalization of $ 6.8 billion (as of December 6, 2021). The sales volume of non-fungible tokens (NFT) has reached $ 41.5 million… Not bad
How to enter the Decentraland Metaverse
The other day I tried it for the first time and noticed that even without a VR, you can easily access it from the desktop, right here in Nigeria. It’s a lot easier to do than to write it down, but I’ll try to be as precise as possible.

There are two ways to enter the Decentraland Metaverse, the first, is through a wallet such as Metamask. When I opened the account on Opensea to sell NFT I opened one, here is the explanation. The second is by logging in as a guest. Once you have gone to decentraland.org just follow the instructions to register so that in a few steps we will be able to be inside the Metaverse with our avatar.
2. Create Your Own Avatar
There is nothing different than a classic video game. I think the first time we happened to create an avatar was playing NBA 98 on Playstation 1. Nothing complex for anyone, you select the body, the face, the clothes, etc. Here different schools of thought, some prefer to have an avatar similar to reality and those who invent everything. This phenomenon of hyper-personalization was born in the days of Second Life, when already in the first years of the life of that Metaverse, you could buy skins or accessories to make your avatar unique.
3. Familiarize With The Environment
Decentraland, like other Metaverses, is virtual worlds dressed as videogames. Once inside, you will be guided by a tutorial that will give us the basic information to move our avatar. Press “c” if you want all the commands to appear on the monitor, move with the keys “a”, “w”, “s”, “d” etc. I believe that those who are already equipped with a viewer can experience more engaging navigation, also because moving in the virtual world, you can hear people talking, and in headphones, the stereo effect is a lot of fun. In the image below, I approached two guys who were chatting, I doubt that one of them was a bot because at one point he invited me to visit an NFT exhibition nearby.
4. Interact and Navigate
Once the tutorial is over the game is done, all that remains is to interact with the other citizens of Decentraland, navigate, wander around the neighborhoods and find out everything you can do!
Which Metaverse to Choose? How to invest in the Metaverse? How to participate in Metaverses from Nigeria? These are all plausible questions in this moment of incredible fervor. But my advice is always to test for yourself how this incredible new possibility works. I am sure that in a short time, in a very short time, professional roles and careers within the Metaverse will be born, so … why not start being present in this primordial phase?
