How to download, install and start using the Metamask wallet, we have already described in one of the previous articles. However, the issue of ensuring the security of the wallet data and the funds that are on it is an even more important and difficult task.

Metamask, like any other browser hot crypto wallet, is your personal property. And this means that the entire responsibility for the storage of assets lies with you.

What needs to be protected the most?

The first and foremost problem you may encounter is losing your SID phrase. The SID phrase is a special password of 12 English words that you are given when you register your wallet. If you lose it for any reason, you will never be able to get your funds back.

At the same time, if you lose the usual password that you yourself came up with during registration, then this is not so scary. After all, if you have a SID phrase in your hands, then you can always re-enter your wallet and come up with a new password.

Metamask Security Recommendations

First of all, you should take care of the safety of the secret phrase from the Metamask wallet. To do this, prepare 2 clean new flash drives without viruses and save all the passwords and phrases in the document there. Hide them in safe places and never lose them.

For added security, I recommend printing out the TID phrase on a piece of paper and also hiding it in a secluded place.

So you will definitely be sure that you can always access your funds on any device.

Exporting the private key to Metamask

You also need to save the secret key from Metamask. It can help you with wallet recovery and will be an additional security measure to the SID phrase.

The secret key can be found like this:

  1. After opening the Metamask Wallet, click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
  2. In the pop-up window, click on “Account details”.
  3. Then click on “Export private key”.
  4. Enter your password from Metamask (just the password, NOT the LED phrase). And you’re done, you can copy and save your private key!
